A friend has received the offer from Schneider Electric Sydney on its Graduate Position 2008! Congratulations!!! He has done so well and he wrote an article taking down all the details through the whole interview with one of the Top 500 companies in the whole!!!

Schneider Electric Sydney 的心路歷程

1. 2007年9月,在UNSW Job Online上看到了Schneider Electric Sydney招收Graduate Electric Engineer,於是就把我的Resume和相關文件的掃描email給了Schneider Electric的人事部。

2. 2007年9月24日下午4時30分,突然接到Schneider 人事部的電話,很簡單的一個telephone interview,算是第一輪面試吧,就5分鍾,先讓我介紹一下自己,然后她跟我介紹了一下這個職位的性質,說有可能要去美國培訓2年,問我怎么樣?我當然說沒問題了,而且說自己很年輕,喜歡travel,喜歡了解其他國家的文化風俗等等。之后又問了我大學本科的成績怎樣,我就說High Distinction,因為我知道大學本科平均成績是有75分的,所以就斗膽說了HD。還有就是我的career plan是怎樣的,她聽我說完,覺得還不錯,然后就和我說10月2日讓我去他們單位面試,她會把相關的信息email給我,並讓我帶好成績單。

3. 第二輪面試前的准備:

(1) 把所有相關的材料按順序放進一個文件夾, 主要有護照、IEA會員及IEA職業評估、Bayswater Power Station實習推薦信、USYD和UNSW畢業證書及成績單, 國內本科學位、畢業證書公證件還有成績單翻譯件等等。我還准備了我的職業評估報告,本科論文,Bayswater Power Station的實習報告、演講稿的ppt等, 另外還把所有的資料刻了一張光盤。

(2) 仔細研究了Schneider Electric在網上的job description。從這個里面可以知道他們是怎樣一個公司,最重要的是能知道他們公司需要具備怎么樣素質的人, e.g. 下面是Schneider的job Description:

ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING GRADUATES

· Electrical Engineering graduates with 1 –2 years experience

· Overseas Graduate Program with global market leader

· Develop expertise in Automation or Electrical Distribution (Power)

我對以上Highlight的地方分別做一些研究工作,列出一個表格,也就是結合自身,挖掘出自己符合這些素質的實例:

e.g. “a long-term career with us” à 這個是考驗你的Loyalty,我把這一點作為我其中的一個Strengths,因為strengths是每次面試必問的,我當時說的時候的思路是這樣的:我是一個loyal person,這是我的一個strength,我有很多好朋友,I’m loyal to my friends. 第二, I have already studied in Electrical Engineering for more than 7 years, I completed my Diploma、Bachelor and two Masters Degree in the same field, so I am loyal to my major. And I believe I will loyal to my future career as well. This is my first job, this is the start of my career, I spent a lot of time to looking for a good job, I can see a lot of opportunities in your company for my personal development and I hope I can work through in your company.

(3) 研究完job description后,就是研究他們的網站。了解你要應聘的公司很重要,這個也是HR面試必問問題之一: How much do you know about our company? (Why Schneider? )

我看完他們的網頁后,歸納了幾點關於施耐德的:

a. French-based Global company, more than 150 years history, operates in 130 countries,

b. Core business: Electrical Distribution, Automation & Control

c. Three famous brands 三大品牌: Merlin Gerlin, Telemecanique, Square D

d. Four markets 四大市場: Energy & Infrastructure, Industry, Buildings, Residential

e. Not only provide high quality Products, but also good technical service à Sustainable Development 可持續發展

(4) 幾個自己覺得必須准備的問題:

a. Introduce about yourself: 學歷背景 工作經驗 近況,外帶可以很簡單地說自己的strengths,這樣可以把面試官帶向你准備好的關於自己優點方面的問題,到時他如果追問,你可以把准備好的例子講出來…….這個問題往往是面試的開頭,每個參加面試的人都會准備,但是個人覺得是最需要精心准備的問題。

b. Your Future Career Plan / Your next five years plan: 一般都是三部曲,第一步,成為professional engineer,第二步,成為team leader,希望能領導一個團隊,研發新產品,為公司增加效益,第三步,成為business leader,這是長期為之奮斗的目標,這樣基本就ok了,下面一段是我在回答BHP Billiton的面試時說的:

First Stage: To be a professional engineer (2 years)

If I’m successful for applying BHP Billiton Graduate Electrical Engineer, I will take part in your 2 year Professional Development Program

--- Learn Professional Knowledge;

--- Gain Work Experience;

--- Work in different fields, eg energy coal, copper, aluminium etc, to familiar with the production of different resources.

--- Understand my company and the business clearly, e,g the value of the company, the culture of the company etc. Also, I have to find out what are the biggest challenges, where are the opportunities for the sustainable development of our company.

At the end of 2-year program, I will find a win-win position, this position will not only benefit the company as much as possible, but also utilize my knowledge and experience and realize my value maximally. In a word, we both need sustainable development.

Second Stage: To be a team leader (3 years)

In the next 3 years, I will work for outstanding achievements, eg, increase company profit, at the same time, I will study some management and leadership knowledge, try to become a team leader

Then, I will work hard for becoming a business leader that means to be a key role of the company, that’s my long term goal.

這個問題精心准備一下,以后的其他面試,也是能用的,基本框架不變的。

c. Your Strengths / Weakness? 最新遇到的一個問題值得讓大家好好准備,我在NEMMCO的電話面試時被問到:Could you please tell me your strengths and your weakness personally and technically? 等於至少要說四個,就是personally strengths, personally weakness, technically strengths, technically weakness. 特別是說weakness時,其實不太好說,要注意的是說出一個weakness,並說明自己意識到也正在改進,這很重要。我當時說自己的weakness是做什么事都要求Perfect,然后會浪費時間在不重要的事情上,之后我還加上了一些話,說明自己在改進。“Sometimes, thinking too much and to be very cautious and careful are not good. It will waste your time on the thing that was not important. What I am doing now, is to list the tasks and prioritize them according to their importance and urgency. I set a deadline for every task as well. Now, I can complete the tasks on time and with high standards, my time was saved and the efficiency was enhanced.”

d. Why you apply for this position? 以BHP Billiton為例

Firstly, BHP Billiton is the world's largest diversified resources company and a leading global resources company. With the high reputation and outstanding achievements, I would like to start my career here and I believe I can realize my future career goals here.
